The first pair of ice skates I owned were the type that clamped onto the sole of your shoes later on I had regular shoe skates. I enjoyed skating in my youth but wasn’t always very smart. I use to ride my bicycle from my home on the avenues to Liberty Park where there was a lake you could skate on in the winter. Round trip from hoe to the park and return was approximately four to five miles. One early spring day I rode my bike etui the park to skate. The lake was still frozen... As I was skating I noticed the ice melting close to the shore. I found a place that the ice appeared thicker than the melting areas and tried to jump from the lake to the bank over the thin ice. I failed and went into the water up to my chest. I almost froze to death riding my bike home. I thought I was encased in an ice cub
